What Is the Difference Between Heating Pellets and, for Example, Stall Pellets?

Heating pellets and stall pellets are both made from sawdust and wood shavings from the wood industry, but they have different properties and uses. Heating pellets are more tightly compressed and have a higher energy density than stall pellets, making them more suitable for burning in boilers and stoves. Stall pellets are more loosely compressed and have a higher absorption capacity than heating pellets, making them more suitable for use as bedding in horse stalls. Stall pellets break down quickly when watered, while heating pellets hold together longer during combustion.

When it comes to heating a typical house with an annual energy consumption of between 25,000-30,000 kWh, a small bag of good pellets corresponds to about one day's consumption (80 kWh). However, keep in mind that electricity consumption varies greatly between seasons. This means that less pellets are used in the summer and much more during the winter months.
